REAL WEDDING: Vanessa and Ryan
Hello hello!!! It’s been a while now hasn’t it?! Wedding season go away from me a little bit but I’m back with the next edition of Real Weddings that I’ve been involved in over the last few months.
I’m starting back today with Vanessa and Ryan’s fun filled elopement in the Royal Botanic Gardens in Melbourne a few months ago. As you can tell by the beautiful pictures from Gold and Grit Photography they had a terrible time getting married.
But lets have a chat with Vanessa to hear all about her and Ryan’s wedding…
How did you meet? Vanessa: We met through work, Ryan used to work for a company that buys chemicals from the company I still work for. After emailing back and forth for a while, he then slid into my DMs on Insta.
Tell me about the proposal… New Years Eve last year, we hired a campervan and took the dogs with us down Great Ocean Road. Got as far as SA and we parked up at night overlooking the beach and after dinner he pulled out a ring! I was shocked! I don’t think I even said yes straightaway lol It was a perfect night.
Why was it important for you to get married? To make it more official. To be able to wake up and say that’s my husband/wife. To have that one person that has your back for the rest of your life.
What was the first thing you booked when you were arranging your day? You and Stina from Gold and Grit. After following you two on Insta for a while I knew exactly who I wanted to and it just worked out perfectly.
How did you choose your dress? I always knew I wanted something stunning but not way out there. I walked into Rachel Gilbert and fell in love with the first dress I tried on. Ryan’s suits were different. We basically had 7 weeks to organise custom made suits. I found The Spectre Collection on Insta and Joanne there was just amazing.
What was the reason that you chose the venue that you did? We chose the Royal Botanic Gardens as although we eloped, we still wanted to marry in a beautiful spot.
What flavours did you decide for the cake? Had a cake from the lovely Torte by Mirjana – it was sticky date with butterscotch cream and whiskey caramel sauce.
How did you both plan the wedding? I did most of the planning. Because we decided to elope not long after we had booked our engagement party, Ryan did’nt think we could pull it off in such a short amount of time. We got married In April and surprised everyone afterwards at the engagement party telling them we are already married. In January he basically gave me a few weeks to go do my research to see if we could pull it off, suppliers and all. There were 12 people at our wedding. We had to make sure my best friend and her fam and my parents could make it from Sydney on the day we chose.
We are glad we did it this way. Although stressful in those few months, the day was everything we wanted it to be and more. It was so perfect.
We’re happy that we didn’t wait a few more years to do this!!
The best thing about our wedding was that we got married!!! And in front of our nearest and dearest!
How was the lead up to the wedding? Were you nervous? The only thing I was nervous about was the Melbourne weather as our ceremony was outside and I did not have a wet weather back up plan. I didn’t really manage this other than checking weather updates that final week like every hour. And after all that the Melbourne weather that day was perfect!
What was the best piece of advice you were given in the lead up? Do what you want to do as its your day and people will talk anyway!
Has life changed since you got married? Not really!!!! Still just as great, just we get to call eachother husband and wife now 😊
Is there anything you would change about your wedding day? Not one thing!!
What’s your best piece of advice for couples that are arranging their wedding? Follow your heart, do your research, make sure that you are making decisions based on what you want, not what other people expect of you.
Who was your favourite stand out vendor? Honestly they were all great that I cant choose. Precious was fantastic!!! Stina from Gold and Grit delivered beautiful photos and made us so comfortable, Heather, my makeup and hair lady was the most patient and talented hair HMUA I’ve met, and Mirjana I actually want to just keep having parties so I can keep eating her cakes, and I am still so obsessed with my flowers that Marnie created. Its too hard to choose!!
